1. EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY RELIEF – 2005

Earthquake jolted Northern areas of Pakistan on Saturday 8th October 2005 at 8:30 causing massive destruction and played havoc by damaging buildings, houses and other facilities including animal and human life, and left thousands of people homeless. The major jolts has been recorded as 6.2 tremors and rated as a major earthquake in Asia.
For the relief of the people affected (especially children) by the disaster on 8th October 2005, Hayat-e-Nau contributed for the disaster from their own meager resources received from the generosity of the following local and international contributions:

As a member organization of “Indus NGOs Network” in Sindh We have contributed for medicines for children affected through the Church World Service (CWS), who took lead in this disaster and confronted to assist needy by providing food, shelter and medical care etc.

2. FLOODS RESPONSE – 2010

Devastating floods hit Pakistan throughout July/August/September, 2010 causing havoc to the land and displacing over 20 million people out of a total population 0f 160 million people.

In response to the 2010 floods, Hayat-e-Nau has been engaged in providing medical relief to the flood victims in districts Hyderabad, Jamshoro and Thatta.

The Hayat-e-Nau team set up mobile clinics in-collaboration with our local NGOs Network – Indus Institute for Research & Education (IIRE) from 1st September – 6th October and then continued from 11th October, 2010 till to date with our parish St. Elizabeth’s, Hyderabad, which is under the care of the Franciscan Friars.

From the beginning we targeted those communities and groups of people not being reached by the government, local authorities, political parties or other NGOs. We focused on the poorest and most in need in the districts Hyderabad, Jamshoro and Thatta of interior Sindh who were camped along the roadside or huddled in small groups for protection. Many of them belonged to minorities and tribal groups who were afraid to seek refuge in the officially set-up camps of the majority.

Through these mobile clinics we have been able to reach and treat 26,326 people (Male 7,512 – Female 10,061 – Children 8,753) mostly suffering from skin infections, communicable diseases, fevers, Malaria, diarrhea and waterborne diseases as well as malnutrition.

This work is made possible by the generous support of our following local and international benefactors.

  1. Mr. Phil Kint                                         The Netherlands
  2. Mrs. Andriena Russo & Friends               Rome, Italy
  3. Mr. Roberto e Patrizia                            Italy
  4. Mr. Ruperto                                          Rawalpindi – Pakistan
